Planting of One Million Trees
Trees are assets of the nature given to us by God for our living, we cannot substitute artificial trees. The world will not survive without trees, and it is a beauty of God’s creations. We need trees for our environment, breathing, health, food, water, etc., etc. We need trees! Throughout our neighborhood’s parkways, many trees are being lost to wind and weather, sewer, water and gas repairs, as well as old age, and we must replace them. The Population is increasing, but trees are being reduced. The increased population needs more oxygen, more water, more fire wood, more timber for housing, more paper (you need 17 trees to make one ton of paper). Trees are the world’s single largest source of breathable oxygen, but they also detoxify the air, prevent water pollution, stabilize the soil, bring communities together, offer shade, food and medicine, and shelter countless animals and birds. Just two mature trees can produce enough oxygen for a family of four!
Island wide Health Clinics ( Western and Ayurvedic) would be conducted regularly as per the need of the division.
Clean Water & Sanitation
We will take steps to improve the Water & Sanitation which are a basic requirement for healthy living. Areas to improve would be rural school sanitation, sanitation facilities for the disabled and the problem of ground water contamination resulting from on-site sanitation in congested townships. There are dirty water streams / canals in the cities which could be used for agriculture. Toilet pit in every house is a problem as they do not keep it air tight and the waste leaks to the earth and the earth water becomes polluted. The government should instruct the Health Officers check on all houses to ensure that the toilet pits are sealed. Assist and educate the communities on the preservation of ground drinking water and to provide assistance for the supply of drinking water. Ensure everyone has access to clean drinking water and sanitation facilities. Improve sanitation facilities by providing toilets and latrines that flush into a sewer or safe enclosure. Promote good hygiene habits through education. Awareness & assistance on the development of water safety plans. Promoting safely-managed rainwater harvesting in the communities and schools. Protect the diversity of nature Promote opportunities for cultural activities, leisure and recreation to all. Assistance and guidance to solve the Elephant – Human conflict which takes the lives of the poor communities as well as Elephants and which causes lots of financial losses and living conditions for the community. Trees prevent $ 7 billion in health costs every year by filtering air pollution. Trees clean the air, absorb odors and pollutant gases and filter particles out of the air by trapping them on their leaves and bark. Trees provide oxygen and enhancing community’s respiratory health, in one year an acre of mature trees can provide enough oxygen for 18 people. Trees work 24 hours a day to improve our quality of life and our environment. Planting more trees, especially in areas where air pollution is elevated is a great way to enhance the health of urban residents. Trees block Urban noises by absorbing part of the noise. Trees control climate change. The evaporation from a single tree can produce the cooling effect of ten room-size, residential air conditioners operating 20 hours a day. Trees cool the streets and the city, and releasing water vapor in to the air through their leaves. Trees conserve energy. Three trees placed strategically around a single family home can cut summer air conditioning needs by up to 50%. By reducing the energy demand for cooling our houses, we reduce carbon dioxide and other pollution emissions from power plants. Also with the constantly rising temperatures and new heat records being set every coming year, trees cool the earth through evaporation. The temperature of the country is increasing. The temperature rise also will cause an increase in mosquitoes in the colder part of the country which may lead to the spread of mosquito borne diseases . Average temperatures have risen in the last 50 years as tree coverage has declined and the number of heat absorbing roads & buildings has increased. Trees cool the city by up to 10’F, by shading our homes and streets, breaking up urban “heat islands” and releasing water vapor in to the air through their leaves.

Support breastfeeding for a healthier planet. Breastfeeding provides every child with the best possible start in life. It delivers health, nutritional and emotional benefits to both children and mothers. And it forms part of a sustainable food system. But while breastfeeding is a natural process, it is not always easy. Mothers need support – both to get started and to sustain breastfeeding. Skilled counseling services can ensure that mothers and families receive this support, along with the information, the advice, and the reassurance they need to nourish their babies optimally. Breastfeeding counseling can help mothers to build confidence while respecting their individual circumstances and choices. Counseling can empower women to overcome challenges and prevent feeding and care practices that may interfere with optimal breastfeeding, such as the provision of unnecessary liquids, foods, and breast milk substitutes to infants and young children. Improving breastfeeding can extend the duration of breastfeeding and promote exclusive breastfeeding, with benefits for babies, families and economies. Indeed, analysis indicates that increasing rates of exclusive breastfeeding could save the lives of 820,000 children every year, generating US $302 billion in additional income.
Solid Waste Recycling
Sri Lanka generates 7000MT of solid waste per day with the Western Province accounting for nearly 60% of waste generation. Each person generates an average of 1-0.4kg of waste per day. According to the Waste Management Authority and the Central Environmental Authority, only half of the waste generated is collected. Recycling is the process of converting waste materials into new materials and objects. Recycling can prevent the waste of potentially useful materials and reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials, thereby reducing: energy usage, air pollution and water pollution. Promote farmers to use compost instead of chemical fertilizers. Home gardening has to be promoted. Transform food production, sale, and service so that nutritious food is accessible to every person globally on a daily basis. We are planning to collect these extra food regularly from these hotels and to give them to poor families who are starving or to Piggery. Proper Waste management, by identifying separate items and recycling same. Once you recycle, there is no waste left as the result products would be recyclable & reusable raw materials, water for cultivation and compost manure for agriculture.
Reducing Ecological Footprint
Increase the proactive participation of Eco team staff and clients for environmental care through daily acts: recycling, switching off extra/unwanted/non utilized lights and electronic devices, saving water, using less plastic… Awareness on energy and water consumption, transportation to office, waste and recycling inside the office, use of ecological material (sheets, printer’s ink, electronic device, and ecological wood made. Promoting environmentally healthy living by promoting Waste management, Recycling and Up cycling among the young generation. Activities – Tree planting sessions, Beach clean-ups, Turtle-releasing, school awareness. Raising awareness about coastal conservation by creating awareness among the coastal communities.
Wild Fruits Forest
Forestry and agro-forestry are the most natural and effective ways of controlling climate change. Trees reduce the carbon footprint. A mature tree consumes up to 48 pounds of carbon dioxide a year. Trees prevent soil erosion by slowing down and absorbing the rain water. Also with the constantly rising temperatures and new heat records being set every coming year, trees cool the earth through evaporation. Therefore because trees are much cheaper compared to other methods of climate change mitigation, it is easy for the locals to invest in them and so far, we have registered a lot of success. We have lost most of our nutritious wild fruits and we are already late in preserving them. But let us start at least now.
Animals at risk of extinction due to human exploitation have been found to carry over twice as many viruses that can cause human disease as threatened species listed for other reasons. The same is true for threatened species at risk due to loss of habitat. Exploiting nature ‘drives outbreaks of new diseases’. The new study, published in Nature journal, shows Newsletter that animals living in the environments shaped by humans carry more pathogens than those in pristine habitats. And it highlights a widespread public misperception that nature, such as untamed jungles, is the greatest source of disease crossover. In fact, the greatest threats appear to arise where natural areas have been converted to croplands, pastures, cities and suburbs. The findings point to strategies that could help mitigate the risk of future public health threats. As agricultural and urban lands are predicted to continue expanding in the coming decades, we should be strengthening disease surveillance and healthcare provision in those areas that are undergoing a lot of land disturbance, as they are increasingly likely to have animals that could be hosting harmful pathogens.
Cleaning Lakes, Rivers, Streams and Ocean.
Cleaning of Lakes, Rivers, Streams and ocean and to make sure they are free of any chemicals, free of polythene & plastic, and to grow fish. We have our own volunteer life guards who will be always with us in carrying out these projects.
Elephant – Human Conflict
The attacks between the elephants and the community have taken lives of several elephants and humans. We should have the live and let live policy. Why should we destroy the jungles (dwelling place of elephants) and allowing them to come to our lands. There were boundaries in the past, and now, we the humans have started occupying lands beyond the boundaries allowing no place for the elephants to live. Now the problem is severe day by day and one day we will lose all our elephants. Erecting of electric wires are of no use, as most of the time it does not function properly in addition there are times when there is no electricity. Further, it costs lots of money and a danger both to the elephants as well as the community. Plant a row of Agawa plants ( plenty available in unattended areas Sri Lanka, and can be grown in commercial and home nurseries ). Plants which are about two feet height, could be planted around the house so that the Elephants will not cross over this. May be the children while playing could be injured by touching these plants, and as such, lemon or lime trees have to be planted towards the house near the Agawa plant fence. This would also generate income.
Eco Village Development is an integrated concept of creating development- focused, low-carbon communities of practice in existing villages. It involves the integration of appropriate, affordable solutions at village-level for energy, food, water, and livelihood security. This concept can pave the way for stronger rural communities with better livelihood-opportunities, with less adverse climate impacts, and with more resilience to climate change. Ecological communities do not damage the environment, and they regenerate the ecosystems where they live (recycling, reforestation, restoration of habitats, etc.). Eco villages promote positive values like ecology, solidarity, equality, tolerance, generosity, diversity, hospitality, respect, collaboration among people and self-sufficiency.
Environment is a place in which people live their lives, so its cleanliness and good weather would be considered a huge advantage for people since they are busy in different walks of life and a healthy environment can insure the safety of their lives not only physically but also mentally. Besides, when the surrounding is tidy the children attitude, mindset, and brain will be outstanding. Our environment plays an important role in our health. In order to have good health, we need to have safe, clean environments to live, work and play in. Many diseases can be prevented by eliminating environment related risk- factors. By taking care of our environments, we take care of ourselves. Air pollution seriously affects human health, damages our ecosystems and causes deterioration of buildings and monuments. Cleaning up our cities’ air is one of the main keys to have a healthy environment. Use Reusable Bags. Plastic grocery-type bags that get thrown out end up in landfills or in other parts of the environment. ., Print as Little as Necessary. , Recycle. , Use a Reusable Beverage Containers., Don’t Throw Your Notes Away., Save Electricity! ., Save Water., Avoid Taking Cars or Carpool When Possible., Plant trees, Keep the earth clean, free of any dirt, chemical, etc.,
Disabled by Birth
Birth of disabled children is part of the responsibility of the pregnant mother. Cleanliness, health, foods, drugs, behavior, engaged in risky jobs, etc., are one of the main reasons for the birth of disabled child. Other reasons are marrying blood relations, Thalassemia Patients marrying a Thalassemia patient, etc., These are the categories of children whose brain develops very slowly. The best way is to develop their skills especially in sports. There are more than 700,000 such children in our Schools in Sri Lanka. More than education, the specialists have found out that they could be improved in Sports. With parents of around 21 lakhs of such children suffer a lot and this is a very sympathetic situation. It is our duty to make sure that they are physically and mentally improved and instead of burden, let us make them valuable citizens to the country. Let us make them happily involve in sports and education and improve their body health and mentality. Let us not ignore them. By doing this, we can make them to do their own work without any assistance.
Sri Lanka has a declining marine ecosystem, with ongoing threats to the coastal coral reef environments. If climate change proceeds unchecked, Sri Lanka will undergo widespread effects, such as climate variability and sea-level rise, which will directly affect the overall abundance and security of endemic species. Local and global policy changes are crucial in reducing carbon dioxide emissions so islands located near the equator will not be as drastically affected. Therefore planting Mangroves is very important. There is great climate change threat in the next half a century to Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is particularly vulnerable to rising sea levels and weather-related disasters have the potential to set back any gains made in agriculture, fisheries and even services such as tourism. There are also several effects of climate change that all Sri Lankans are experiencing as of now in terms of floods and heavy rain. The temperature of the country is increasing. The temperature rise will also cause an increase in mosquitos in the colder parts of the country such as Nuwara-eliya which may lead to the spread of mosquito borne diseases. There is also the threat of landslides that is taking place. The increased frequency of flood and drought incidence in the last ten years has caused severe hardship to poor farmers across Sri Lanka. The cost of living has gone up with less agricultural produce supply not sufficient for the demand and the price shooting up. The reasons for all these are gradual desertification of the earth, rising of sea levels, unexpected and sporadic forest fires and finally making the earth an uninhabitable place for species. The need for Sri Lanka to follow a green path toward its future development.

To ensure proper transportation of the community specially of Children and Elders.
Children are our assets for a better tomorrow. To get the benefit from them, they have to be brought up properly with good behavior and attitudes. We cannot teach the elders as they are already trained in their way and sometimes it becomes a risk to put them on the correct path. If the children are not brought up properly, they get involved in several types of crime including the sale and usage of drugs. The easiest way to tackle these issues is to put the children on the correct track, give them good guidance and make them understand. Prepare youth to meet the challenges of adolescence and adulthood and achieve his or her full potential. Prepare the children to go through to acquire the attitudes, competencies, values, and social skills they need to become successful adults. Conduct regular awareness programs on leadership, skills development, drug awareness, personality development in School and appreciate and award them at the end of the year. We will organize youth groups from Schools with the permission of their parents and Principal. Their main responsibilities would be to promote peace, justice, anti-drug activities, education, sports, unity, respecting elders, respecting laws and better environment. Sri Lanka has been experiencing a lower economic progress over decades due to several reasons, and that lower financial literacy among the general public is another reason for this situation. Sri Lankan voters always focused to eradicate corruption and maximize subsidies granted by the Government. The major destruction to the economy was caused not due to corruption, but due to erroneous economic decisions/policies implemented by politicians over decades. The cost of public finance mismanagement has already caused adverse implications for future generations as well. General public majority anticipates government subsidies, salary increments, and duty waivers from the annual budget speech. Due to lack of financial literacy, voters tend to vote for the election manifesto which caters for those short sighted wish list, without assessing economic policies presented. Sadly, majority of Sri Lankan voters suffer from economic illiteracy. After the election, ruling party attempts to satisfy short term promises at the expense of long term economic development. On that note, there are some similarities between the Voter and the Consumer, who is running behind seasonal credit card offers. Financially illiterate citizens will always get carried away with higher returns and neglect the risk element. Poor financial literacy among citizens is a blessing for most of the politicians ranging from central government to local administration bodies. Financial literacy can develop an individual’s ability of using financial resources effectively and efficiently. In Sri Lanka the financial literacy is in a considerably lower level. Improving financial literacy among Sri Lankans will help create a new breed of entrepreneurs and profitable business ventures across Sri Lanka. Less number of entrepreneurs and businesses in the country is one of the key reasons that the country hasn’t been able to send Sri Lankan made products to international markets over the last couple of years.
In Sri Lanka about 943,250 persons including youth, disabled, etc., are un-employed from the total population of 20,961,113. When un-employment is high, the community is short of money. This is where the crime comes in for generating money. If people are united together, healthy, educated and wealthy, there would be no any crime whatsoever on earth. Therefore we have to ensure that the community has funds for spending for their basic needs. The concept of Social Enterprises would be that there will be no any paid staff or workers employed in this organization. Every worker irrespective of their age, sex, religion, education, disability would be a share-holder / partner of this organization. Out of the profits, 25% will be retained for further development, 25% will be credited to LFRO and the balance 50% of the net profit would be distributed among these share-holders according to their work input. This one Family concept, will allow people to participate and feel ownership, meets urgent needs specific to each community and builds trusting relationships. Poverty could be easily eliminated by establishing Social Enterprises in which all the community, old & young, male & female and disabled can show their talents and be partners of this Social Enterprise from which they will get their share of profit according their own performance. Social Enterprises would be established in each LFRO Division and if needed in the cities and villages of the Division. It would help to end poverty, end hunger, achieve gender equality, promote economic growth, employment and decent work and promote just, peaceful societies The communities will be encouraged and supported in Home Gardening, Dairy, Agriculture, Restaurants and other Industries.
Types of Projects :
Garments manufacturing, Bag making, Agriculture, Poultry farming, Dairy farming, Fresh Water Fish Farming and establishing Hotels & Restaurants.
Time Bank is a concept to establish in every village. No money is involved. They help others and that will be their credit. It is a co-operation and friendship among members. Arranging monthly meetings so that all members get acquainted and friendly with each other. Find suitable place which is available free of cost for meetings. It may be a park, temple, day care center, Senior Citizen home, school/college premises etc. Members can plan some get together, picnic, outings, dinner with members and their family on contributory basis to establish good relations/fellowship among them. They can help members with their expertise free of cost. Time spent by them shall be credited to their bank account.
According to the Department of Probation and Child Care Services, in 2002, there were 223 children’s institutions at the national level, caring for 11,495 children, which increased to more than 21,000 children in 488 voluntary residential care institutions in Sri Lanka and as of today, the figures are not available, but definitely it would be higher than 21,000 children. Many children’s homes in Sri Lanka do not even have sufficient basic facilities such as beds, clean water or adequate sanitation facilities and for some, there were no separate storage space for children’s personal belongings. Most of these children living in orphanage homes do not get what they deserve. The kids are often ignored by the authorities, and some orphanages do not have enough money to run the homes or send them to school. Most children living in homes have never known the true meaning of family. Many children are confined in these orphanages with restricted communication with parents and relatives and often with inadequate supervision or living conditions. During festivals children receive gifts and cash donations from well-wishers and foreigners who visit the area, however, the staff members take these belongings and cash from children living in orphanages. Fundamental rights of these children are violated by not giving them when they are hungry, not providing them with suitable clothing, education, speaking rights, parents love and even they are not taken out. There are more than 6,000 employees working in these orphanages, but they are not interested or not willing to ensure the fundamental rights of these children. On the other side, in an average, 1 in 6 couples experience pregnancy issues due to extrinsic factors that may affect pregnancy, such as air, water, pollution, food and drink. To overcome, the couples spend lots of money ( in lakhs) to get a child by IVF, Test Tube Baby, etc., and around more than 500 Test Tube Babies and more than 3,500 (correct figures not available – Lanka Hospitals alone had the 1250 IVF baby in 2019). Most of the couples have gone to India spending a lot of money to get a Baby. Therefore in order to save our foreign currency, save our nation and save our own people, we suggest that parents who does not have a child, or who wants another child to please adopt a child from the orphanages and legally become a foster parent. If a child is adopted by foster parents, he/she will have the parents love, will be clothed properly, will be sent to Schools and would be looked after and the child will receive parents love. A good generation could be built. Also conduct programs to help reunite children with their families, thus reducing the number of children in orphanages.
CARE OF ELDERS
There are several Life Insurance Companies in Sri Lanka who provide Health Insurance, Pensions Insurance, etc. It is not easy for parents to look after their child from birth. They take care of the child’s safety, food, clothing, education, and whatever possible to bring them as adults. In return it is the duty of the children to look after especially when they are old. It is true that due to latest trends and workloads, even the children are not able to take full care of their own parents. At this stage, they neglect their own parents. You will understand as to how badly the parents will be affected and this sometimes trends to change to mental status and they will not know what they are doing. Therefore we suggest that every employer makes it compulsory for every worker to insure their parents for medical cover and monthly pension plan until their death. Once this is made compulsory, there would be no any issues between the parents and children as they will live a peaceful life till death. In addition, it would be not an additional burden for the children to look after their parents. There would be no any need for elders home and for the parents to lose the love of the children during their last days. The government also will be relieved of the burden of treating the unattended elders.
